Three Wheeled Buggies

The latest figures have been released that show that the three-wheeled buggy - a symbol of the noughties of more money than wisdom - is in steep decline. They've been replaced with four-wheelers which can handle a wider variety of terrain, while still looking swanky and being easy to push.

MFM reviewer Kath tested this buggy with the newborn baby as well as a child who was 3 wheel all terrain buggy years old and found it to be very sturdy. It was able to withstand cobbles, grass and rough pavements as well as dirt tracks and kerbs. Kath said it felt solid to push and very stable on difficult terrain. Its tyres (which are inflatable and require periodic pumping) have suspension built-in which was extremely comfortable for my kids.

Another thing to consider is the size of the seat and shape. It is important for the seat to be big enough to allow your child to feel comfortable and to allow them to lie down. Certain three-wheel buggies come with the option of lying flat that allows your child to lie flat and face you, whereas others only permit a parent-facing option.

Easy to maneuver

One of the main benefits to a three wheel buggy is that it's much easier to maneuver particularly with a child in tow. The way they are constructed means that the front wheels turn at a quick pace and are extremely easy to manoeuvre which makes them perfect for tricky terrain like cobbles, parks and bumpy pavements as well as dirt tracks.

MFM reviewer Kath tried a lightweight 3 wheel buggy-wheeler with her newborn and toddler and wrote: "The Terrain was a pleasure to navigate over the rough terrain, with the swivel front wheel particularly useful. I was also impressed with the way it handled bumps, particularly when using the hand-operated brake. I found it extremely steady when I was driving downhill or over uneven ground."

The only downside to this great maneuverability, is that the larger wheels of the 3 wheel pushchair off road-wheel buggy may make it difficult to squeeze into tight spaces. This is something to be aware of when your home is one of the cities. If this is the case then a four-wheeled buggy might be the better option for you.
