The fight generated 1.25 million buys and $70 million in domestic pay-per-view revenue, making it the most watched boxing event of 2009. Pacquiao earned around $22 million for his part in the fight, whilst Cotto earned around $12 million. Pacquiao–Cotto also generated a live gate of $8,847,550 from an official crowd of 15,930.

Wins here include victories to earn titles in the super featherweight, lightweight, light welterweight, welterweight and super welterweight divisions. He earned wins over legendary names such as Oscar De La Hoya, "Sugar" Shane Mosley, Miguel Cotto, Ricky Hatton and Erik Morales.

At a June 10, 2024 Tokyo press conference, it is reported that Manny Pacquiao and Chihiro Suzuki signed a three-round exhibition fight on July 28 in Saitama Super Arena. However, in late June it was announced that Suzuki withdrew from the bout, and was replaced by former K-1 Super Lightweight Champion Rukiya Anpo. The bout was declared a draw as there were no judges and neither boxer could not score a knockout.

Last but not least, let’s mention James Tennyson as another British fighter who potentially could get another crack at the World title. After his defeat to Tevin Farmer in the Super-Featherweight division, there are hopes still for Tennyson that he can earn World honours. His recent wins have put him inside the top 10 WBO rankings at the #6 spot; so never say never, especially not with Eddie Hearn at your side!

Additionally, fighters such as Eimantas Stanionis and Yordenis Ugas present intriguing matchups in the division. Their high-level skills and competitive nature would make for compelling fights and add to the excitement in the weight class. However, if Vergil Ortiz can recover from the health issues he's facing, he would be a strong contender to fill the void if Crawford decides to vacate the welterweight belts. Ortiz's skillset and potential make him a promising fighter in the division.

On June 11, 2011, Serrano defeated Jennifer Scott to capture the vacant WBC–NABF featherweight title. The bout was scheduled for 8 rounds, but the match was cut quick as Serrano knocked out Scott in 1:04 of round one.

The first golden age of Philippine boxing emerge as Pancho Villa won the universal world flyweight championship from Welshman Jimmy Wilde to become the first ever Asian and Filipino world champion. Villa defended his title three times including a fight in the Philippines with fellow Filipino Clever Sencio where he won by fifteen-round decision, which at the time, nobody thought it would be the last victory of his young career. The glorious era was short-lived following the ring deaths of popular fighters Dencio Cabanela and Clever Sencio along with the death of Pancho Villa from Ludwig's angina and their influential promoter Frank Churchill.

As we look to the future, the evolution of weight classes and the emergence of new champions will undoubtedly add new chapters to this ongoing saga, continuing to enchant and inspire generations to come.

Brandon Figueroa currently has recognition as the WBC’s interim featherweight champ. Given that Vargas hasn’t made a defence of his title since July of last year, one would expect the Mexico-based organisation to order that fight imminently.

Also created in 1920 by the New York Walker Law, Super Bantam was set at a weight limit of 122 lbs. In 1922, Jack Wolfe took down Joe Lynch in what ounce boxing gloves do boxers use was billed as the first junior featherweight championship, though the New York State Athletic Commission (NYSAC) would not recognize this fight.

Oscar Valdez (23-0) Valdez, Mexico's only two-time Olympic boxer, made his second title defense against mandatory challenger Miguel Marriaga, a tremendous puncher from Colombia, in the main event of an April 22 Top Rank PPV card. It was a terrific fight against a quality opponent. Valdez scored a 10th-round knockdown and won by unanimous decision. Then Valdez headlined a Top Rank ESPN card in his boyhood home of Tucson, Arizona, on Sept. 29 and exchanged knockdowns with the Philippines' Genesis Servania en route to another decision victory in yet another terrific action fight. There's been talk of a showdown with former titlist Carl Frampton (24-1) in 2018 in a can't-miss fight, but first Valdez will return to ESPN to defend his title against another opponent at the StubHub Center in Carson, California.
