After a number of social media posts hinting at it, Italian supercar-maker Lamborghini has finally announced its first NFT (non-fungible token) project. The project is dubbed Space Key and developed in collaboration with an unidentified artist, it is based on a piece of advanced carbon fiber composite material that was shipped to the International Space Station for research purposes.

The Space Key is a collection of five physical items which unlocks a unique digital artwork by an unknown artist. Developed in collaboration with NFT PRO(tm), the "collector's work" is limited to five units and will be auctioned off soon.

At the heart of each Space Key is a block of carbon fire composite material that was sent to the International Space Station in 2019 as part of a research project. After returning to Earth the block was engraved using a QR codes that connect to the digital element in the Space Key.

Each of the five Space lambo keys features a different moment that occurs at different times when the Lamborghini Ultimae takes off towards the stars. More than 600 million pixels make up each of the five images which were taken by photographer Fabian Oefner.

Oefner used a balloon with a camera, which took each of the individual shots, that were then merged to create the final image. The result is an out of this world photo that captures the beauty of Earth and the futuristic, hyper-realistic image of the car rising away from it. The Space Keys are going to be auctioned off soon, but there's no precise date or location yet.

The auction
