The i5+ robot is perfect for homes with many rooms. It's however not designed for carpeted areas or stairs. It has a small capacity dust bin, which means it can't sweep your entire home if there is a lot of pets or other debris. Think about the i7 or the i9 models if you're looking for a Roomba with more power to withstand difficult environments. These robots can be used to mop wet floors and are more suited for stairs. iRobot Roomba Combo i7

This high-end model offers top-of-the-line features and performance that could draw buyers away from the vast majority of budget competitors. The most significant upgrade is the automatic dirt disposal system, which eliminates the need to dispose of a trash bin after every clean. The Combo i7+ has a simple setup process, with an on-screen guide that guides you through the initial registration and setup. In our tests, we found that the i7+ was able to climb over floor breaks, and other obstacles with ease. It was able to detect furniture and other obstructions without difficulty. However, it couldn't overcome a 2 inch marble slab that divides the kitchen and living room. The edge cleaning capabilities were much better than the results we saw from the budget robot vacuums with a strong grip on corners.

Once the i7+ reached its maximum capacity, it returns to its Clean Base and empties its contents. It then prepares for the next clean. When it's time to add cleaning fluid, just hit a button on the side of the robot, and the small water tank/dustbin combo clips open.

The only drawback is that the Clean Base takes up a considerable amount of space and is difficult to tuck the i7+ away in a closet when it's not in use. However this is a typical issue with robot cleaners, and most manufacturers provide smaller charging stations that are more compact. These stations are usually designed to fit in under cabinets, making it easier to conceal your iRobot when it is not being used. iRobot has reached out to us following publication to clarify that the Combo i7+ is designed to be used only with the manufacturer-approved cleaning solution (sold separately). It should not contain water since it can damage internal components and reduce performance.

iRobot Roomba Combo i9

This robot mops and vacuums at the same time by using its stainless steel arms that grab dirt and debris while it moves. It lowers its mop when it spots carpets in order to avoid getting the carpets wet. This is a great feature.
