Tyres

These tires cushion bumps and uneven surfaces to make your child's ride more comfortable. These are found on pushchairs like the Phil and Ted's Sport which MFM reviewer Kath said was "an amazing ride for her toddler". She also said that the grippy tyres make it easy to navigate cobbles and kerbs.

These tyres can be difficult to maintain and require having their air pressure maintained regularly. These tyres are prone to punctures, which is why it is recommended to always carry a repair kit and spare inner tube with you when you're out and out and about.

PU tyres are more commonly found on pushchairs as they are less expensive than air-filled tyres, but they are equally durable. PU tires are easily distinguished by their matte finish and supple feel. They also slide on smooth and tidy surfaces.

It's usually possible to discern the distinction between air-filled and PU tires by running your hands over them, if it feels hard, then it's made of rubber, when it slides, it's a PU. You can also confirm that your buggy has PU tyres simply by sliding the tyres on a clean, flat surface - they'll be able to roll easily and fit snugly in their wheel hubs.

Foam tyres are able to withstand the rough terrain associated with high-performance buggies. The downside is that the foam could shrink and make your buggy appear less stable since it loses its springy nature. These tyres are also noisy because they generate a lot noise when you turn and drive around the town.
