iRobot Combo Review

Combo is irobot with mop’s first mop and vacuum robot. It's also one of the most stylish. Its brushed aluminum top piece and iRobot logo are more sophisticated than the blaring designs of competitors.

You can use the irobot robot vacuum Home app to set up and guide your robot. The app tracks usage data and maps of your home that include obstacles and furniture. Maps and image data is only shared with iRobot if you opt-in.

It's a mop

The Combo irobot is a very smart mopping robot that takes all the advantages of the great Roomba j7+ and adds an onboard water reservoir, a small Mopping Irobot pad, and a nifty robot arm that lifts and lowers the pad. It can complete a large amount of work in only 111 minutes before it is power-depleted and returns to its base station to recharge.

The model that is equipped with the iRobot Home app so you can start or stop cleaning runs. It's also a nice-looking robot, with matte black plastic that doesn't show fingerprints or dust and the top piece of aluminum is brushed with a small irobot roomba logo.

It does a great job of vacuuming and has no issue traversing large area rugs and transition strips between flooring surfaces. It can even pick up fine dust that many robotic vacuums miss. However, it's not so well in the field of mow. It won't remove dried milk stains, unless you've sent it four or five times.

IRobot's specialized Braava jet M6 mopping robotic cleaner, which is usually available in a bundle along with the J7 Plus for less than the price of the combo Combo does a much better job at this and other tasks that are difficult. It can even clean up wine and ketchup spills, however I wouldn't recommend it following any liquids that have a high amount of sugar.

It's a vacuum

It's also among the most attractive robot vacuums, with a smooth and sleek top piece that doesn't show dust or fingerprints as easily as the competition. The small dustbin and water tank of this vacuum are easy to open, but they are not the biggest. The Combo j7+ also has the same smarts you'd are used to from irobot black friday, including map and obstacle avoidance mapping that works effectively and swiftly. The mopping arm is what makes this model stand out from the rest of its competitors. It keeps the mop pad tucked in the top of the vacuum, but if it spots the need to mop a surface it lowers the mop pad below and behind the robot. This is a major improvement over other robot vacuums, which require you to take out the mop pads for hard floors or carpets manually. You can also switch off the entire unit to mop.

It's an electric charging station

When you're ready to charge your Combo Irobot, simply place it on the charging station and align its metal contacts with the ones on the base. The charging station is reliable and is simple to set up. In my tests it took the robot a few moments to charge before it would make noise when finished. When the Combo robot is fully charged, you can start a mapping run on the app to help the robot comprehend your home. You can also mark certain objects, such as lamp cords as permanent avoidances within the app. You can also connect your robot to Alexa or Google Assistant, so you can use voice commands to direct it around your home.

It's a smart device

Combo irobots utilize acoustic and onboard sensors to understand the kind of floor it's encountering as well as the objects in your home. It also combines this knowledge with maps of your space and image data from the robot's camera to develop a custom cleaning plan for each room. It's smart enough to avoid your lamp cords, couches and other items you want to preserve. Like any other connected device, there are questions about the security of these data. iRobot however, states that it will not sell any customer data and that no images are taken without the permission of the customer.
