Three Wheeled Buggies

Three-wheeled buggies are great for walking around the neighborhood or for jogging. Their compact design makes it easy to maneuver even in tight spaces.

For an easy ride, opt for a pram with air-filled tyres. Also, look for models with 360deg front swivel wheels. However, they are more prone to punctures, so make sure you are prepared with an repair kit.

Frame made of sturdy material

Figures have just been released that show that the three-wheeled vehicle - a symbol of the noughties of more money than sanity is in a decline. They have been replaced by four-wheelers which can handle a wider variety of terrain, yet still look elegant and easy to push.

The idea is that the bigger the wheels are, the easier it will be for your buggy to cope with bumpy ground and rough pavements. The larger wheels, both front and rear facing 3 wheel stroller allow you to maneuver and more stable while walking downhill or over difficult terrain.

MFM reviewer Kath tried this buggy out with a newborn and 3 wheel double pushchair year old and found that it was able to withstand grass, cobbles rough pavements, dirt tracks and kerbs. She said "it is sturdy to push and extremely solid when you're on rough terrain. The tyres, that are inflatable and need to be pumped up occasionally they have suspension built-in. It was extremely comfortable for my children.

The shape and size of the seat is another aspect to consider. The seat should be big enough for your child to feel at ease and to lie down. Certain three-wheel buggies have a full lie-flat option while others will only allow an adult facing one.

The Roma Atlas is a great alternative for off-road or wet walks. It can be used as a single from the beginning and can be modified to accommodate two children as your family expands. It is suitable for toddlers and infants from birth until age 4 and comes with a bumper, raincover, an improved 5-point harness, and a huge cushioned seat. Storage options are also a plus with a large basket and zip pockets on the hood and an attractive pouch at the rear of seat unit.

Wheels with a larger diameter

Larger wheels mean your buggy will be more stable on uneven terrain, which is ideal for buggies designed for off-road use. In addition, they allow you to maneuver the buggy through tight spaces. Many three wheeled buggies have the front wheels that swivel to aid you in maneuvering around corners with ease, whereas others are specifically designed for running and have fixed front wheels that lock to improve the speed and stability at which they can be pushed. This is especially useful when you bump against a tree or a kerb. The front wheel will lift slightly to prevent hitting it.

A majority of 3 wheel pushchairs come with air-filled tyres. This means they are able to handle different terrains and are far more flexible than 4-wheeler. They are also lighter. They are prone to punctures, so you'll need to have a repair kit and spare inner tube in your arsenal.

Some of our favourite lightweight 3 wheel stroller-wheelers include the Mountain Buggy Core and Venicci Carbo Lux. These buggies, according to MFM's Kath, have larger wheels that she claims "perform well on grass, gravel roads and market town cobbles", and can easily go up or down kerbs. They also come with a suspension system that in her words "smoothes out bumps extremely effectively".

The downside of having larger wheels is that they make buggies quite large and can struggle to fit through narrow spaces. This can be an issue if you're using it as a jogger or you need to to get through doors that are narrow when out and about. Most models come with compact folding options that let you remove the front wheels and store them in a more compact manner.

Easy to Manoeuvre

A three-wheeler can be more comfortable to drive with children. They are designed so that the front wheels be turned on a dime and are easy to navigate, making them ideal for terrains that are difficult, such as cobblestones, parks, bumpy roads, and dirt tracks.

MFM reviewer Kath tried an all-wheeler with her toddler. she said: "The Terrain is a joy to maneuver on rough terrain. The swivel wheel in the front was particularly useful." I was also amazed by the way it dealt with kerbs using the hand-operated break. It was extremely stable when for descending or on a rough terrain."

The only downside of this amazing maneuverability is that the three wheel buggy's larger wheels sometimes mean it has to be difficult to maneuver in tight spaces - something to consider especially if you live in a urban area. If this is the case then a four-wheeled buggy might be the better option for you.

Kath the MFM reviewer, also appreciated the spaciousness of the buggy. There's a large easy-to-access basket that's quite spacious for a buggy of this size and there's an excellent zip-up pouch at the back of the seat and even two smaller mesh pockets under the hood to keep your keys and phone.
