It's less expensive than the more expensive Roomba versions, such as the i8+ or j7+. It has many of the similar features, but isn't equipped with the advanced navigation features.

It's excellent at cleaning floors that aren't clean however, it doesn't do an excellent job of getting rid of pet hair or other messes on carpeting. It does an excellent job on laminate and tile flooring However, it has a special cleaning head designed to fit into corners. It can be programmed to clean specific areas or rooms of your home, and it can be used to create virtual boundaries to stop it from entering rooms you don't want it to.

The i1 also comes with a self-emptying dirt compartment that lets you avoid having to empty the trash manually each time it runs out of room. It's easy to maintain but you must empty its brushes every week. Its vSLAM navigation system utilizes cameras instead of laser sensors, so it takes longer to map out rooms and can't detect furniture like the more expensive Roomba models.

If you encounter an issue, iRobot will offer free replacement parts for a whole year when you join its iRobot Select program. The program comes with some limitations, such as not covering theft, mysterious disappearance, or misplacement and doesn't replace the standard one-year manufacturer warranty.

The i7+ costs more than the 981 but offers better performance on bare flooring, a larger dustbin, and the ability to automatically empty the dirt compartment into the larger dirtbag included in its charging dock. The iRobot is also more durable and has a longer battery life, and charges faster than the Shark. The i7+ can also remove more dirt from low pile carpets and can be set up with a virtual barrier line by using the iRobot Home App. The i7+ isn't exactly the best robot vacuum for pet owners or those with long hair, though. Its sweeping brushes occasionally get stuck in hair, and you'll need to flip the i7+ over and clean out its moving parts from time to time and it can get more than an a bit messy.

3. iRobot S9+

The iRobot S9+ or Baby Rocky as my 3-year old calls it, does a great job of cleaning floors that are bare. It removes a variety of debris and has the most powerful suction we've seen from an ordinary robot. It's very luxurious and has a long battery life, which allows it to clean up a large area without running out of power.

It utilizes iAdapt Navigation 3.0 with vSLAM to learn the house's layout and create personal Smart Maps, which allow it to efficiently navigate. Imprint Link technology is used to automatically mop after vacuuming. It's the first iRobot robot to have an elongated body that allows it to go more closely to corners and edges than traditional round robots like the Neato Botvac D7.

We found the iRobot more user-friendly and intuitive than its predecessors.
