If your SAAB 9-3 key fob starts having issues turning the barrel of the lock it's possible that it's time to replace it. The procedure is relatively simple and doesn't require you to visit an agent. Instead you can do it yourself at home by using some basic tools.

In the beginning, you'll need to prepare the new key. Before you start, disable the anti-theft by placing blocks under your rear wheels and releasing your handbrake. Insert the key in the ignition and turn it to the "on" position. This will activate the accessories but it will not start the engine. Repeat this process 5 times, and then put the key in the "on" position.

You'll then need to purchase an additional case for your key fob. You can find them at any auto parts shop, and they're typically quite affordable. You can purchase them without electronics, based on the model.

To open the case, gently push the flathead screwdriver into the slot in the middle. When you've split the case, you will be able to access all the internal electronics. To remove the electronics employ a small screwdriver and try prying them out in a gentle manner.
