UPVC Replacement Door Handles

As time passes the handles on your doors will get worn out and need to be changed. It is important to be able to match the dimensions of the old handles when replacing them.

Inline Lever/Lever

A lever/lever handle is a modern-day door handle designed to suit new or replacement doors. This kind door handle is available in a wide range of designs and finishes. This handle is available from several manufacturers including Avocet ERA Fullex Hoppe Mila Millenco Yale.

The uPVC/Composite door handles are constructed of durable materials and are perfect for doors with multi-point locks which require a robust design. The handles are inline, and they utilize the same screws and spindle to fix them. They can be easily installed on a new or existing uPVC/Composite door.

The handle can be placed and angled to fit any user. The brompton carry handle has been endurance-tested to 200,000 cycles. This ensures that the quality of finish and performance over time. The lever that is sprung can be cut to fit a wider range of locks. This is particularly useful in doors with smaller door frames in which the cylinder is further back. A shorter lever can be used for doors that have a latch which can be operated with the thumb inside.

Lever Pad

The lever pad upvc handle is distinct from the lever handles found on most doors. These handle types can either work off one single spindle (inline) or independently from each side using two offset or inline spindles (pad). They are usually used on UPVC double-glazed doors and come in a variety of styles and finishes.

The handles have been tested to at least 200,000 cycles and are available in various finishes like White Silver, Chrome, & Gold. The finish is in line with BS EN 1670:2007 Grade 5 and is also resistant to corrosion, giving the handle a high level of durability and performance for its intended use.

All UPVC levers for handles come with a spindle, screws and can be installed on the uPVC door. The backplate fixation centers of 211mm allow for a bigger handle, which is often an advantage when replacing an old upvc window handles or faulty multi-point door lock mechanism. These handle levers have a spring, which solves the problem of handles for doors that slide out of the horizontal position when not in use.

When selecting the replacement UPVC handle and spindle, it is crucial to match the dimensions of the PZ on the multipoint lock as well as the uPVC door. This measurement is often called the 'handle centre' or 'cylinder centres' and is a critical aspect in ensuring that you have the right handles.

When you have the right PZ size, you'll be required to make sure that the lever pads and push pads are a suitable shape for the American with Disabilities Act (ADA) compatible handles you need for your doors. These are typically rectangular or round in design with an internal lever and an external push pad.

Most of the UPVC lever pads we offer are sprung, which means that they will return to their horizontal position when not in use, instead of hanging out and possibly sticking in the frame. This helps prevent the draughts and cold air from getting into a house. The majority of UPVC lever pad style handles are available in left and right handed versions that allow them to be installed on either side of doors.

Euro Cylinder

Cylinder locks are typically found on uPVC doors, but can also be found on other types of door. Cylinder locks are operated with a key that unlocks the cylinder case. The case is then able to reveal pins that can be aligned to those inside the lock and allow them to rotate the camera that rotates, opening the door. Euro Cylinders are available with up to six pins. External and internal doors require different levels of security.

Selecting the right cylinder for your needs is vitally important; this depends on the way your door and handle are used. Doors that are external, for instance, should be fitted with higher security cylinders and doors inside can be secured with an ordinary cylinder. Certain cylinders are equipped with additional features that can increase security, like anti drill or anti bump properties.

To ensure that the euro cylinder is the right size for your door, it must be measured accurately. The cylinder should be measured from the central fixing screw hole to the end of the cylinder and the thumb turn if you have one. It is recommended to do this while the lock is in place, but when this isn't possible, you can take it off to measure. It is essential to ensure that there is no cylindrical lock that extends beyond the handle or escutcheon. This could make it vulnerable to snapping lock attacks.

The design of most newer cylinders has anti-drilling and bump resistance features. These features are designed to minimize the chances of an attack by forcing the cylinder rotate in the opposite direction. This can to deflect attacks and protect your door.

There are also cylinders constructed to withstand snapping. This is a common occurrence on cylinders. A specially designed tool is used to break the break line of the lock, and the front of the cylinder is snapped off. This is a quicker and more convenient method of gaining access than the use of a multipoint locking system. It also leaves less evidence of the break-in which could hinder insurance claims.

Spring Cassette

This spring cassette is located inside the base plate of your door handle. It provides a sprung solution to help return the multipoint lock handles to their resting position after use. The handles had no spring and would drop when the locking mechanism was disconnected. The addition of this simple element is one of the best methods to correct this and it is also a great way to prevent your upvc doors from getting stuck in either closed or open position, as these are not always easy to close manually.

These spring cassettes were created to be used with sprung multipoint lock. They won't work with unsprung handles and you'll need to cut a hole in your backplate for them to fit. (Please check the image for a technical diagram). These cassettes are a replacement to broken or missing cassettes in the backplate of uPVC door handles for bifold doors. They are supplied in a single unit. They have a square-cut out that is able to accommodate an 8mm shaft.
