Clay chimineas are a lovely alternative to enjoying outdoor fires. They are more fragile than iron ones and require special attention to make sure they last for a long time.

It is also recommended to put some 50mm of sand or Gardeco lava stones (see the accessories above) at the bottom of the chimenea. to shield it from direct heat and help keep the hottest part of the fire directly touching the clay, which could cause it to crack.

A cap made of big clay chiminea is an excellent idea since it will stop water seepage that could again cause them to weaken over time and crack. Chimeneas with caps made of clay are a bit more costly than those that are not capped, but it's a worthwhile investment because it will significantly increase their lifespan. Keep them away from fire-prone items since this could cause an accident. Also, do not place them in windy places because this could cause the smoke to flow in unexpected directions and make it difficult to use.

It is also an excellent idea to seal your chimenea at least once or twice a year with Future floor wax or Butchers Wax, this will help protect the clay from elements and make it stronger and more resistant to cracking and warping.
